As you may have already guessed, I got into philosophy primarily for the money and women. But why didn't someone warn me about just how solitary the life of a philosophy postgrad could be. I don't think I've felt this lonely since elementary school. Back then, my only companions were my two imaginary friends, Elma and Capt. Amazing. What's worse, they only played with each other.
But at least I still have my books. Ah, my books.

I dated a philosophy student once. I almost scratched his eyes out. I couldn't get a simple answer out of him. When a girl asks if her jeans make her butt look big the correct answer is "hell yeah, baby!" not "your butt is an elegant thing, if anyone modestly meddles with it; but if they are conversant with it more than is becoming, it corrupts them."
And your sense of humor dude! Dont forget that!
I don't think it's so much your chosen field as it is the sad fact that you smell. :D
Cheerfully Cynical,
For a while I thought Cheery Cynic was you (which really confused me because he actually had something nice to say). But it all makes sense now.
Cheery Cynic,
Given my life I pretty much had to develop a sense of humour. Thanks for dropping by.
Mist1,
I must confess that we philosophers aren't always the easiest persons to get along with. Whenever my ex and I got into an argument, I would always try to confuse her with a logical paradox: “The sentence I'm uttering right now is false!” But if the sentence really is false, then it's true, and if its true, then its false. And that would pretty much end the argument!
I got into psychology for the second reason. It's more accurate and you still can have the books. perfect!
you are not alone. You have all us blogger buddies. we are prob. better then real friends anyway. We won't come over & mess up your house for one thing or eat all your food.
i'm wondering how apollo complex among 2 philosophers conversing with eachother would be like.
i'm an indian and very spiritual. and my favorite spirit is vodka. that's where my philosophical thoughts begin and end.
;)
wow, that looks like a comfortable couch!
yeah yeah, i know that has nothing to do with philosophy or philosophy majors... but, um, I did kiss my philosophy class's teacher's assistant in my freshman year of college. ^^ he was so cute (and had a hot foriegn accent!)
so, uh, yeah. work the accent and sound all philosophical and the ladies will come. you can kiss them on that comfy couch. damn that couch looks comfortable.
Actually, sitting on comfy couches reading Socrates is precisely what philosophy is all about! (Actually, since I'm a modern analytic philosopher I'm more likely to be reading Frege or Wittgenstein, but Socrates sounds sexier).
Now the only question is why didn't I have students like you when I was a teaching assistant? I hope he had the decency to at least give you an A.
